You Save Green!

Today, I started my first real-world experience in the world of sustainability. I began an internship at YouSaveGreen, a full service auditing-installation-maintinence renewable energy company based in Brooklyn, NY. Over the next few weeks, I will be working on their various projects around the area, from planning, to the grunt work, and covering everything from solar, to wind, to geothermal energy.
Today, we went to a solar energy project. It is absolutely amazing how simple yet complex these systems are. While I may discuss the intricacies of their operation in later posts, I want to focus on the benefits and simplicity of ownership. Solar panels can completely remove your need to pay for energy or utility bills, and while the initial payment may be a little large, they generally pay for themselves within a few years. Plus, government incentives and subsidies help cut the cost by large amounts. So tell me – why wouldn’t you go solar?
